Wright and Ballengee Capture 10K Titles at Final Event in the 2000-2001 Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. – In snowy, damp conditions, Jeremy Wright of Team Beaver Creek prevailed, capturing the Men’s 10K Title in the final event of the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series. Wright’s winning time of 47:35, led him to the finish line ahead of second place finisher Charlie Wertheim in 47:56, while Josiah Middaugh placed third in 48:20. 10K athletes battled it out on a course which started at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain and wound up into Bachelor Gulch. The snowy course was quite variable with sections of challenging terrain - including singletrack, tree sections and steep pitches.
Jeremy Wright commented on the series and the course following his win, "Awesome series! The courses continued to get better and better. Today’s course over Bachelor’s Gulch was truly the hardest of all this years and one of the best I’ve ever done."

In the Women’s 10K Division Danelle Ballengee of Dillon, CO (56:39) held off competitors Kelli Lusk (1:05:07) and Lisa Been of Team Atlas (1:08:38) to take the Gold. The East West 5K Quest, which is a recreational walk/run, had a strong showing with Julie Smith winning the Women’s race and Mike Mocher taking home the hardware in the Men’s Division.

In the Blue Moose Dash For Cash, an all out100 yard dash, saw Dan Nielsen of Team Beaver Creek win for the Men while Alicia Dow of Vail out-sprinted the field to take top honors in the Women’s’ race.

A field of over 200 made it to the final snowshoe event, with over 1,000 athletes from around the country taking part in the 2000-2001 Snowshoe Adventure Series. The Series, which includes the North American Snowshoe Championships, has done much to position Beaver Creek as the premier snowshoeing destination in the world. "The continued success of the series reflects on the growing number of participants. With the new courses, it attracts participants form all over, people absolutely love it!" said Tony O’Rourke, Executive Director of the Beaver Creek Resort Company.

Look for the series to return to the Beaver Creek Resort for its fourth season next winter.
