Not sure how much cash you have to blow, but you might want to try checking for sublets in the classified sections of local newspaper websites. A couple I have found success with (which are local to Boulder) are www.codaily.com and www.thedailycamera.com
If you prefer more nomadic-friendly digs, maybe try seeing what http://www.hostels.com/us.co.html has to offer.
